Noticing stomach changes but not chest...?

Postby Letsworkhard » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:28 am

I'm on a diet. I jog/power walk about 3 miles a day. Some days it's just 2 miles and 1 mile on elliptical. I go on a 1200 calorie diet. It's been 5 days since my diet/exercise has started and I noticed some differences in my belly fat. My pants aren't too big for me yet but I definitely feel the flatter belly. However, my chest fat (aka man boobs) didn't shrink at all. I really want them to go away and all of my fat to build up muscles. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to wait about a month to start seeing more major results like loss of chest fat? I'm planning on losing 30 pounds or more. Will I lose all of visible fat if I lose 30 pounds from 205 pounds?

I've been working out every single day so far. Plan on working out all 7 days or maybe just 6 days.

It's too soon for you to be looking for changes in your chest or major changes anywhere else. There's no guarantee you will lose your man boobs, either, but the less fat you need to lose in an area the more time it will take to see changes there if you're losing fat all over. You can certainly work on toning up that area and building more muscle, which should help the appearance of man boobs shrink. Make sure your diet includes muscle-building things like milk, cheese, meat, fish i.e. anything with protein in it. At least 3 servings a day. And you have to do more than cardio to build muscle, as well. You should be lifting weights--if you're a male and do not lift regularly, I'd say start out with 10-12lb weights and add more lbs as you get used to lifting those. Either barbells or an aerobic bar will do, and do research on different sorts of lifts and repetitions for you to do that should help your chest, as well as the rest of your upper body.

Since I don't know your body type, it's hard to say if you'd lose all fat by losing 30lbs. I will say that if you've just started working out, you probably don't need to be doing 7 days a week. You should start off doing cardio maybe 3-4 days a week for at least 40 mins with the other 20 mins or so being lifting weights and doing toning exercises such as situps. Then on days off from cardio, you should spend at least 30 mins lifting weights and doing situps. Starting off full speed like that will make you hit a plateau quicker, and you'd have to workout longer/on more days than you already are just to get your body burning fat again. Plus, putting on muscle helps you burn more calories, as well, so just lifting weights on days when you're not jogging will be very helpful, especially if you include lots of protein in your diet.

Hope this helps.

Noticing stomach changes but not chest...?

Do not starve your self(it never works, although that's the first thought that crosses anyone's mind when thinking to lose weight)Eat small, healthy meals frequently. Five small-serving snacks per day is better than three hearty meals.Go slow. If you have already lost 5 or 6 pounds, give yourself a break then try to lose the next 5 pounds.

Here's some other quick tips for you:

* Stuff vegetables like capsicum and zucchini with flavored fillings or minced chicken, white meat or fish. These are healthy and contain low fat.

* Learn how to make the family favorite recipes and make sure that fats, salt, and sugar are cut out. Substitute non-fat yogurt for cream, stir-fry without oil and use herbs and spices instead of salt to taste.

* Buy non-toasted muesli instead of the toasted ones. A plate of toasted muesli contains more fat than a plate of bacon and eggs.

* Warm water with just a squeeze of lemon juice before breakfast get the metabolism going for the day, this also help preventing constipation and is excellent for the skin.

* Drinking hot water instead of cold water in the morning can increase the speed of your metabolism and burn more calories.

If you have started losing weight, just remember it's a question of will. Keep doing what your're doing, stay away from junk food and sodas, and you will feel more healthier and alive than never before.
